Shaping Civil–Defence Standardisation, Together

LIA and DSA (Defence Standardization Advice) are partnering to develop a common
Civil–Defence Standardisation Strategy at the intersection of emerging technologies, industry
needs, and defence priorities.

Why This Matters

  • Civil–defence synergies: AI, cybersecurity, and advanced communicationsincreasingly span both domains; standards enable interoperability, safety, and trustacross systems and suppliers.
  • Derisking through standards intelligence: As Europe advances derisking strategies, proactive standardisation reduces exposure to systemic dependencies andstrengthens strategic autonomy.
  • Strategic foresight in action: DSA convenes global and European perspectives andhas just recently established strategic cooperation with ASTM International and INTRACOM DEFENSE, while LIA contributes standards intelligence and foresight so stakeholders can anticipate risks and seize opportunities.

Time to act

Standardisation has often been overlooked in policy debates, yet in an era of geoeconomic competition, standards function as strategic assets that shape markets, resilience, and security outcomes. LIA is committed to helping industry, government, and defence stakeholders translate this insight into concrete initiatives and measurable results.

What’s Next

These priorities are already embedded in the DeRisking China Workshops for the Defence Industry, which help organisations understand China’s role in global standardisation, identify risks, and prepare practical strategies for resilience.

The future of Civil-Defence Standardisation has started. The time is now:  Get out of the
“sleeper car” for us “sleepwalkers” with Strategic Foresight & Standards Intelligence.
